December 30, 2008. Vanessa Sibanda, a 20 year-old IT student won the 2009 Miss Tourism Zimbabwe title and gave her the opportunity to represent Zimbabwe at Miss World 2009. Vanessa is a born winner with Miss Queen Elizabeth 2003, 2nd Princess in the Miss Harare Junior 2006 and Miss Tourism Harare 2007 titles on her achievements list. Happiness Tshuma was the 1st princess and Sharon Razzle placed as 2nd Princess.
Miss Belgie 2009
December 23, 2008. Zeynep Sever, a
Belgian of Turkish descent, is the new Miss Belgie. The 18 year-old
beauty, who has also competed in Turkey's national beauty contest,
will now represent Belgium in Miss Universe and Miss World 2009
pageants. The first runner-up was Cassandra d`Ermilio and Michèle
Thissen was the second runner-up.
Miss Earth Slovenia 2009
December 20,
2008. Blond beauty Maja Jamnik will represent Slovenia at Miss Earth 2009 after being crowned as Miss Casino Kongo for Miss Earth. The Miss Earth Slovenia 2009 pageant was held at Casino Kongo in Ljubljana - also the official sponsor of the contest. The runners-up were Katja Lekan (first) and Tara Prodnik (second).
Miss Gabon 2009
December 20, 2008. At the City of Democracy in Gabon, 22 year old Marlyne Eyene Ella was crowned Miss Gabon 2009 beating 17 other beauties. Marlyne will compete in Miss Earth 2009. Her court includes 1st runner up Marie-Thérèse Palysandre Bert , and 2nd runner up Cynthia Mboumba.
Miss Burundi 2008
December 20, 2008. Alida Kaneza made
history as the first-ever Miss Burundi titleholder. The pageant
held at
Novotel in Bujumbura also awarded Evelyn Nkurunziza as the 1st runner-up
and Marie Claire Panafrica as the 2nd runner-up. The Minister for
Regional Integration, who happens to be the pageant organizers,
has not confirmed yet if the new beauty queen will be competing
internationally.
Miss Angola 2009
December 19, 2008. Angola's new beauty
queen is 21 year-old Nelsa Suraia Pombal Alves of Luanda. She was
crowned during the finals of the national pageant held at Cine Atlantico
in Luanda. Nelsa will be competing in Miss Universe and Miss World
2009. Jesinalda Silva from Cabinda and Vilma Leonaldo from Lunda-Norte
were the 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively.
Miss South Africa 2008
December 15, 2008. Tatum Keshwar, a
South African model of Indian origin, was crowned the Miss South
Africa 2008 during a gala banquet at Sun City. It was a case of
second time lucky for 24-year-old psychology graduate Keshwar, who
persevered after participating in the contest in 2005, will represent
her country at Miss World and Miss Universe 2009. The 1st runner-up
was Anja van Zyl, while Buyisiwe Shongwe was the 2nd runner-up.
MISS WORLD 2008
December 13, 2008. Miss Russia Ksenia
Sukhinova won the 2008 Miss World crown over 108 other candidates
during the celebration of the pageant's 58th year at the Sandton
Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. Ksenia was also
the Top Model fast track winner. Miss India Parvathy Omanakuttan
was the 1st runner-up while the Beauty with a Purpose awardee Miss
Trinidad and Tobago Gabrielle Walcott bagged the 2nd runner-up spot.
Miss Angola Brigith dos Santos and Miss South Africa Tansey Coetzee
were the rest of the finalists. The semi-finalists were comprised
of Miss Barbados Natalie Griffith (Miss World Talent), Miss Brazil
Tamara Almeida, Miss Croatia Josipa Kusić, Miss Iceland Alexandra
Ívarsdóttir (Miss World Sports), Miss Kazakhstan Alfina
Nassyrova, Miss Mexico Anagabriela Espinoza (Miss Beach Beauty),
Miss Puerto Rico Ivonne Orsini, Miss Spain Patricia Rodríguez,
Miss Ukraine Irina Zhuravskaya and Miss Venezuela Hannelly Quintero.
Miss France 2009
December 6, 2008. Chloe Mortaud, a
19 year-old French-American beauty from Albigeois-Midi Pyrénées
became the first black Miss France titleholder. Chloe, a student
in International Business in Toulouse, will represent France at
both Miss Universe and Miss World 2009. This year's Dauphines were
Camille Cheyere of Lorraine (1st), Elodie Martineau of Pays de Loire
(2nd), Esthel Née of Mayotte (3rd) and Bianca Taillard of
Bretagne (4th).
Miss Luxembourg 2009
December 6, 2008. The 2009 Miss Luxembourg
contest took place at Hotel Royal in Luxembourg City where 20 year-old
Diana Nilles of Walferdange walked-away with the crown. Diana is
studying English Literature and Drama Studies at the Royal Holloway
University in London. Muriel Gilbert, President of the national
committee, said that franchise applications for Miss Universe, Miss
Earth and Miss World are on process.
Miss Algeria 2009
December 5, 2008. Asma Afen, a 21 year-old
graduate of Business Management from Algiers, was crowned by Art
& Mode Agency as Miss Algeria 2009 after beating 17 other contestants
at the El Safir Hotel. The runners-up were Sihem Hamidouche and
Soumia Wissi. This pageant is one of two Miss Algeria national contests,
the other one is organized by Nedjma Agency.
Miss Latvija 2008
December 3, 2008. Ieva Lase was crowned as Miss Latvija (Latvia) 2008 and will compete at Miss World 2009 in South Africa. Elina Grundane was awarded the Vice Miss title.
